Guide
How to create a link in bio
A link-in-bio page of your own is quicker to set up than most people expect. This guide covers every step: from choosing a username through picking the right links to adding the URL on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube — and what to do afterwards so the page actually earns its keep.
In short
You create a link in bio in four steps: pick a provider, sign up for free, choose a username and add your links. Then put the resulting URL into the bio of your profiles. No technical knowledge is needed — the page is live in a few minutes.
Four steps to your page
The process is similar across all the common providers. With klixly it looks like this:
- 1Sign up for free — an email address and a password are enough, no credit card.
- 2Choose a username. It becomes part of your address: klixly.app/yourname.
- 3Add your links, put them in the right order and style the page.
- 4Publish, then put the URL into the bio of your profiles.
Decide first: your username
Your username is part of your address and therefore shows up everywhere you share the page. Use the same name you use on your social profiles wherever possible — it makes you recognisable and reads as far more trustworthy than a cryptic address.
Shorter beats longer, and special characters or strings of digits quickly look like a fake address. With klixly you can change the name later; the old address stops working at that point, though, so you'd need to swap the link in your profiles.
Which links belong on the page?
Less is more. Stack twenty links on top of each other and none of them will get many clicks. Put the important thing first — whatever you're promoting right now, or whatever earns you money.
A proven order: the current push first (new video, running campaign, new product), then the evergreens (shop, newsletter), and the remaining platforms last. Revisit it every few weeks — what sits at the top should be what you actually want right now.
The number of links isn't capped with klixly, not even on the free tier. The limit is your visitors' attention, not your plan.
Putting the URL in your profile
Once the page is published, all that's left is the profile entry. On Instagram, go to “Edit profile” and add the address in the links field; on TikTok under “Edit profile” → “Website”; on YouTube in the channel settings under “Links.”
Don't forget the less obvious spots: email signature, Twitch panel, Discord profile, business card, QR code on flyers. The address never changes again, so it can safely go everywhere.
Explained in detail for InstagramFree or Pro?
For most people the free tier is enough indefinitely: links, design templates, the basic stats on how often things were clicked — and 2 bio pages. There's no time limit and no trial that eventually runs out.
Pro (from €4 a month, €36 a year) pays off once you want to fine-tune: custom colours and fonts, advanced analytics with sources and devices, CSV export, up to 10 pages, a custom domain, newsletter integrations and monetisation.
The honest advice: start free. You'll notice soon enough if something is missing — and you can switch any time without rebuilding the page.
Common mistakes
Too many links, all equally important. Without a hierarchy nobody clicks — visitors scroll and lose interest.
Never touching the page again. A link in bio isn't a website you build once. If last quarter's campaign is still sitting there, you're wasting every click.
Thinking only about mobile, or only about desktop. The vast majority of visitors come from a phone — still, test the page once on a computer, especially if you upload your own images.
Skipping over privacy. It's your page, and you answer for the trackers your provider loads with it. If you have visitors in the EU, that isn't something to ignore.
After launch: see what works
The real value comes afterwards. After a week or two, look at which links actually get clicked — it's often a different one than you'd expect. Anything sitting at the top that still isn't clicked needs rewording, or removing.
klixly shows you clicks per link and page views on the free tier already. Visitor origin, devices and trends over time come with Pro.
Frequently asked questions
- What does it cost to create a link in bio?
- With klixly, nothing. The free tier is usable indefinitely, without a credit card and without an expiring trial — including as many links as you like, design templates and click stats. The Pro tier from €4 a month is optional.
- How long does it take?
- A few minutes. Signing up and picking a username takes under a minute; after that it only depends on how many links you add and how long you spend on the design. You can publish immediately and keep adjusting later.
- How many links can I add?
- With klixly, as many as you like, on the free tier too. In practice five to ten works best — the more links stacked up, the fewer clicks each one gets.
- Can I change my username later?
- Yes. Bear in mind it changes your address: the old URL stops working, and you'll need to swap the link in every profile where it's stored.
- Do I need my own domain?
- No. Your page is immediately reachable at klixly.app/yourname. You can add a domain of your own later if you like — that keeps you independent, since you take the address with you if you ever switch providers.
- Can I change the design later?
- Any time. Templates, colours, fonts, background and button styles can all be adjusted in the editor with a live preview — your links stay untouched. Changes are publicly visible as soon as you save.
- Do I need an Instagram account for this?
- No. A link-in-bio page works on its own at its own address. You can just as easily use it on TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, LinkedIn, in your email signature or on printed material.
